Close Friends Experience

This is a publicly tested product feature where users can create a list of close friends from their Facebook friends list to share stories and posts with only them.

onboarding from friends home

The team and I managed product and cross-functional needs to find a suitable permanent placement for Close Friends onboarding and a happy path that chains adoption as well as first engagement (creating a Story) which stimulates the Close Friends flywheel, by using gamification in the upsell.

onboarding from the stories platform

We designed a flow of upsells and tooltips along the Stories platform to onboard users who’d want to share their stories with a more select audience. I led a design review meeting twice a week where the design team and I would align with internal and cross-functional partners on our proposed flows and mocks. These partners included product managers, engineers, design leads, growth specialists, data, research and others.

This bottom sheet appears for users who are new to the Close Friends experience. The content had to satisfy three needs: marketing, informational, instructional — and satisfy a series of cross-functional reviews.

This is an empty state bottom sheet that appears if a user taps the “Close Friends” share button. If the user doesn’t have anyone on their Close Friends list, they will be prompted to create a list.

Note: Our standards are to capitalize “Close Friends” only when it refers to the name of the product.

the “people picker” tool

This is the tool where users can create and manage their Close Friends list. I partnered with designers, engineers and research to test different versions of the UI + UX.
